Ampcontrol provides electrical solutions to the mining, mineral processing, power generation, transmission, heavy industry, oil and gas and defence market segments. Ampcontrol was established in 1968 and operates through 18 locations across Australia as well as through six international locations in New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Russia, South Africa and the United Kingdom. There are currently more than 800 employees.
Ampcontrol has three main divisions:
- Power - Design and manufacture of high voltage, high current and hazardous area products to the mining, industrial, utility and mineral processing markets.
- Electronics - Provides service and products for electrical components and systems.
- Service - Provides both workshop and field service as well as application assistance.
Some recent expansion activities conducted in partnership with SPEL include:
- Acquisition of Allenwest Wallacetown (AWW), a specialist designer and manufacturer of flameproof electrical distribution and motor equipment for hazardous areas. AWW is based near Glasgow in Scotland.
- Acquisition of Burn Brite Lights, a successful designer and manufacturer of hazardous area and mine lighting. Burn Brite is a leading manufacturer of longwall lighting systems in Australia and has systems operating in China.
- Acquisition of Metalect Industries located in New Zealand. Its Power Quality offerings boost Ampcontrol’s ability to provide a total package to customers.
- A new sales and service facility within China supporting the continued growth of the Power and Electronics Divisions. This site will also undertake small end manufacturing for this market.
- Expansion of the facilities at Tomago in the Hunter Region north of Sydney. This has increased the size of the factory facility from 15,000sqm to 35,000sqm.
